Fall 2007 Greer Field Lining Assignments:

Each week through December 1, the Stanford Soccer club is responsible for lining Greer 4 and Greer 5 fields for our use as well as for AYSO/other clubs' use. Before Labor Day, the fields were initially marked. They now need relining every week. Lining of these two Greer fields is assigned to each club team (with some exceptions as noted below) on a round robin basis. Here are the assignments:

Sept 21 Hurricane
Sept 28 Monsoon/Typhoon (restring the field perimeters to straighten endlines and sidelines)
Oct 5 Lightning
Oct 12 Blaze
Oct 19 Wildfire
Oct 26 Tsunami/Tidal Waves (restring the field perimeters to straighten endlines and sidelines)
Nov 2  Vortex
Nov 9  Earthquakes
Nov 16 Hurricane
Nov 23 Monsoon
Nov 30 Typhoon
Dec  7   Lightning  (check if needed for AYSO tournament)

The fields are generally mowed on Thursday so painting can be done either Thursday afternoon (after 3PM) or Friday; Friday is preferred (i.e. since games are on Saturday). Please do not paint before the fields are mowed. It would be good (of me) to send out an email reminder to the assigned team manager during the designated week (but please don’t count on it).

The machines and paint are located behind the gate next to the garage at 310 Colorado Ave (actually garage is around the corner). This is the corner of Colorado Ave and Bryant St, one block south of Oregon Expressway. Contact Charlie Williams (chas_williams@yahoo.com, 650-327-0421) with any questions.

Assignments are done youngest to oldest teams (mostly because the older teams finish early due to high school soccer and use the fields less). U10 and younger teams do the lining at Seale and are not in this rotation. A team receives a 'bye' for volunteers who helped with the initial lining in August (which usually involves marking corners, measuring dimensions, and stringing the lines to be traced with the lining machines).

Marking/Initial lining volunteers this year were:

Thunder: Terry
Landslide: Nancy S, Nancy B, Jim B
Riptide: Kevin, Joan and husband
Cyclone: Sterling
Flood: Lisa St John and son

Once upon a time, some high school sophomores/juniors volunteered to line the fields in exchange for community service credit. Considering the time estimated for an adult to get the equipment, setup, line the field, recycle the used cans, and return the equipment, the equivalent community service time is 1.5 hours/field/week (add another 0.5 hour for weeks needing restringing/lining a field). This equates to 38 hours (which can be split between volunteers also). The community service process is in place if a high school student is interested for a minimum of 3 weeks or more (please).

Thanks for the help..........Charlie Williams
